Ground was broken for the History Center in the Spring of 2008 and was dedicated and opened in 2010. Prior to this building, the Society’s artifacts and papers were scattered in many locations and, since its opening, we have been cataloging the many items in the several buildings we care for. They are being entered on a database program called Museum Archives for easy access and location.
We have an extensive collection of photos as well as hundreds of slides that are of historical interest to Bloomfield. Many of these have been digitized. The History Center is located at 153 School Street next to the Old Farm School. On May 21, 2017, the History Center was dedicated to the memory of Fannie R. Gabriel, donor, past president, and stalwart volunteer.
The History Center features three or four historical exhibits a year and provides a comfortable area for historical and genealogical research as well as space for small group meetings. It is open by appointment Monday afternoon from 1-3 pm and Sunday afternoon from mid-May to mid-October. Arrangements for visiting other times can be made on request.
